Streetbeast - 2004
Developed and made for the Mechanical Engineering Design Contest of the Delft University of Technology on June 4, 2004. The Straatbeest won the contest as the fastest non-rolling human driven vehicle.
The front part consists of a set of 3 legs which are known from the Strandbeest of Theo Jansen. Here they are made of steel with pedals on the crank. The back part consists of two sets of each 4 legs which are not driven but walk along automatically. This also allows steering.
This article Zonder wiel geen fiets published in The Year 2004, Yearbook of the Telegraaf 2004 (pg. 66) shows a picture of the Streetbeast during the race of the engineering design contest.
